Sept. 24, 2018 – The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of David Shapiro for election this November to the U.S. House representing Florida’s 16th Congressional District.
“With public-sector employees across this country facing unprecedented attacks on their workplace rights, it’s more important than ever that we support candidates to local, state, and national office who will have our backs,” said AFGE National-Secretary Treasurer and former District 5 National Vice President Everett Kelley.
“David Shapiro is committed to helping working families and is a strong supporter of labor unions and workers’ rights,” Kelley said. “David will fight to make health care more affordable and accessible, support small businesses and create good-paying jobs, and protect our environment and natural resources.”
“David believes in providing federal workers with higher wages, better benefits, and safeguards to ensure they can do their job without fear of political reprisal,” Kelley said.
More than 79,000 federal civilian employees live in Florida – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time. There are 10,300 active and retired federal employees in the 16th Congressional District.
