Fort Lauderdale, FL., Jan. 19. 2017/ Southwest Airlines will launch flights on June 4 between Fort Lauderdale and Grand Cayman; Belize City, Belize; Cancun, Mexico; and Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The Dallas-based airline is servicing the flights to Cayman from new five-gate international Concourse A at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport’s (FLL) Terminal 1, opening this summer.
“Besides time-saving nonstop service for Southern Californians and South Floridians, these new international flights also bring additional itinerary options for many of our Customers in the West and East,” said Dave Harvey, who oversees International Planning as Southwest’s Managing Director of Business Development. “… Our growing portfolio of international offerings from Fort Lauderdale underscore our commitment to connecting both regions to places travelers find attractive and important.”
The carrier already hosts daily Caribbean flights to Cuba and the Bahamas from FLL.
Each connection to South Florida’s airports brings an added economic impact for one of the region’s largest industries: tourism. Broward County reported a record 15.4 million visitors with an economic impact of $14.2 billion in 2015, according to the most recent data.
